Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Prairie Paks different from the blends
that were sold before?
Traditional blends, for the most part, tended to be one strong yield product and one strong defensive product. There was a tradeoff between potential and protection. We’ve taken an innovative new look at combining products, asking a simple question: “Why should you have to sacrifice one for the other?”
Our answer: Prairie Paks. We combine products that are both strong in yield and strong in disease resistance. The key is lowering risk by teaming up products with complementary strengths.
Are there specific field types that benefit from
Prairie Paks?
The short answer is “no.” Your high-yield fields will benefit from the yield power of the blend, but you also get the flexibility to push these higher-yield products on tougher acres, as well.
How do you determine what products to combine in a
Prairie Pak?
All the products we consider are top performers with strong yield potential. Each has unique areas that make it stand out. A simplified example: One product may have good Sudden Death Syndrome tolerance but only average White Mold tolerance.
Teaming that product with one that has only average Sudden Death Syndrome tolerance and very strong White Mold tolerance gives a combo built to perform and lower risk.
So how do we find which products will be right for a
Prairie Pak?
Testing. Lots and lots of testing. We evaluate each characteristic, match maturities, plant heights and more. It’s challenging work, and that’s why a lot of companies don’t do it. We’re able to deliver our exclusive Prairie Paks thanks to our expertise in soybeans and a systematic process for finding the right products.
Why not simply plant the highest-yielding product?
No one can predict future growing conditions; everything from unseasonal weather to increased insect pressure can throw off a crop’s yield. That’s been true for as long as there’s been growers planting crops. By planting a combination of products, we’re able to balance and mitigate some of that risk.
Planting combinations also increases genetic width. In short, that means you’re planting different products from different sources, further reducing your risk.
How many products are combined in a Prairie Pak?
Currently, we offer both double and triple Paks.
